Full Sentimental - Memento , Auch (2023)
Group exhibition
MEMENTO Departmental space of contemporary art
Gers department
Curator : Karine Matthieu
From june 10th 2023 to October 8th 2023
Since its opening, MEMENTO has become a former residence of Carmelites turned contemporary art space and has continued to get a makeover thanks to creation. During the winter period, the bare places are open to the imagination of the artists to write a common adventure. In this new edition of MEMENTO, Pierre La Police draws on the archives and the spirit of the place to invite the public to a total disruption of perceptions. The world of seeing flirts with that of perceiving.
Ghostly forms appear/disappear in a disturbing reality. An old cell of the Carmelites is revived by a mural to glimpse, in a palpable illusion, a life of confinement. Behind the obstructed windows, visitors experience a common memory of these reclusive beliefs. In the powder room, small watercolors with spectral scenes reveal ancient creatures. Immersed in a landscape, the gaze rushes in, giving back its power to the imagination. The eye moves the physical margins of the frame to fantasize a larger panorama. A dialogue is established between real and unreal.
Karine Matthieu
The other invited artists : Beatrice Celli, Collection A d C, Jeremy Deller, Charles Fréger, Romuald Jandolo, Laurent Le Deunff, Marion Mounic.
